Back in August 2007, I had some McDonalds for dinner (very very BAD but didn't know the effects of what was to come). Much later that night, like around 1:00 am, I woke up experiencing the worst "heartburn". It wasn't the type of pain that you can try to sleep though. Any position I was in made it worse. The only relief was sitting up for a mintue, then the pain would find me in this new postion. What made it even better was that I was still BF'ing at that time (my short term for breastfeeding).... so not only was I awake wrenching in pain at the foot of the bed contortionist style, but had to feed the baby every couple of hours. Where was Mr. Hubsters? Sleeping. (not that he could have done anything anyways but listen to me sound like I was dying).
My first instinct was to take tums. I think I took 6. Then I went online to do some research. I've had heartburn before, but it usually lasted only an hour. Drinking a cold glass of milk soothed only for 5 mintues. By now it was 3 am and I was completely exhausted. I fell asleep on my desk to be woken yet again but the severe pain or a hungry baby. This went on until the morning. I had another episode before I decided to go to the walkin clinic 2 days later. (My own doctor would have me wait at the reception for 3 hours, then another hour in a "room" which has been typical for the past 15 years).
Turns out after having an ultrasound, I was diagnosed with "sludge", a precursor to Gallstones. So I was recommended to see ANOTHER specialist whom I will call "Dr. Idiot".
My first appointment was scheduled to take place Sept 2007. A week before my appointment, I get a letter from "Dr. Idiot" saying that my appointment has been moved to November. (ok. that's fine.)
November comes. A week before my appointment, I get another letter from "Dr. Idiot" that my appointment has been moved to December. (ok. this is dumb).
December comes. A week before my appointment, I get another letter from "Dr. Idiot" saying that my appointment has been moved to March 2008. (ok. this is getting ridiculous).
I decided to call the walk-in clinic who had set this up for me and complain. So they scheduled me to see a NEW specialist whom I will call "Dr. Nice Surgeon". So, I thought that they would have cancelled "Dr. Idiot's" March appointment. But they never did.
So a week before my original appointment with Dr. Idiot, I get a letter from their office again saying that my appointment has been moved to April. (ok. I lost it).
Mr. Hubsters, more livid then I was decided to give "Dr. Idiot" a call. He said this was ridiculous. If they can't take me, stop rescheduling and just recommend someone else. He had cancelled the appointment for me. (which is good anyways because "Dr. Nice Surgeon" was already set up + I would have blown a gasket over the phone). So today, I saw "Dr. Nice Surgeon" who advised that I should have my gall bladder completely removed. So technically, I could have gotten this information back in September. But I got it 7 months later.
what did I decide? to be continued....
